Member Meeting
& Design Innovation Events

April 11-13, 2016
Detroit, MI

Meeting Overview

Join your peers at SB’s first member meeting of 2016, hosted by the Ford Motor Company. At this meeting, we will explore sustainability as an innovation imperative for brands, highlight opportunities for delivering new purpose-driven brand value and explore how our members and others are successfully working to impact the design innovation process.

The program will focus on strategies for engaging the spectrum of internal contributors who are key to bringing sustainable innovation to market, including a review of the methods, tools and platforms that are sparking sound sustainability innovation, both successful and unsuccessful.

Guest speakers will provide updates on outstanding research studies and member initiatives, spark group discussion around key lessons, and provoke frank conversation about the missing ingredients necessary for effective, scalable shifts in design innovation. Attendees will have the opportunity to assess their company's sustainability maturity with respect to design innovation and to identify next steps towards their sustainability ambitions, such as circularity, certifications and more. There will also be a facilitated exercise on the types of dynamic innovations that might emerge from partnerships within this meeting.

What you will learn:

  • How your peers have embedded sustainability into their design process, their catalysts, case studies, and how they evolved to achieve their goals
  • Your peers’ goals, fears, aspirations, partnership needs and how to build successful partnerships
  • What your peers learned from their own wins and losses
  • How to embed deep-rooted end-to-end sustainability in breakthrough new products and services, following cutting-edge concepts such as circular economy, cradle-to-cradle, biomimicry and zero waste
  • How to design for exponentials based on both current and projected future megatrends

6.15pm | Special Reception & Dinner at Rivera Court, Detroit Institute of Arts

The Sustainable Brands community is making the move to Detroit in the spring of 2017 to unfold a global conversation about how we might collectively "Redesign the Good Life." We are pleased to invite your participation at this special dinner to celebrate this move, our partnership with Detroit and to help us imagine what we might accomplish together-- both for Detroit and for the world-- through the convening of SB'17 Detroit.

This exclusive kick off event will gather senior business, sustainability and communications leaders, as well as important community stakeholders who are impacted by the role of business in the community. Together we will pause to revisit the evolution of the industrial age from the vantage point of one of the centers of its success. We will then begin to imagine how together we might shape our next economic chapter to enable a sustainable and thriving future.

Join us this evening in welcoming guest speaker:

Christine Harada
Federal Chief Sustainability Officer
